![]() ![]() It is typically stronger and more ductile than most cast aluminum materials used for wheels.Obviously it depends on the alloys being compared, but the mechanical properties of magnesium are not equal to those of aluminum. There is also nothing weak about magnesium. That said, I have seen quite a few examples of wheels holding up well on the street but cracking when used for road racing. On a race car wheel strength would matter more than on a road car. On a road car a wheel's fatigue resistance would matter more than on a race car. Logic might suggest that a racing spec goes beyond a road spec.In some respects race cars are harder on parts than road cars, in other ways the opposite is true. I have used them on the street for 10 years now. I have a set of 15X7 Sprint Hart CPF's that said for Racing only on them. Having said that I do not know what about them makes them say there for racing only. #Used 3piece rims racing crackI have seen Rota and Konig wheels have the spokes fatigue and crack on the track. I don’t think Panasport works with magnesium though. It is typically stronger and more ductile than most cast aluminum materials used for wheels. Road course racing puts huge fatigue loading into wheels that is just not seen on the street. There is also dropping wheels off the edge of the track at apex or track out points that happens quite often. ![]() Bouncing off FIA curbing at maximum cornering G’s with super sticky race slicks puts much more load and repetitions of load on a wheel than anything it will typically see on a street car. There is no doubt in my mind that the Panasport for racing only wheels are stronger than Chaparral or Rota RB.Īnybody who says tracks are smooth and easy on wheels hasn’t been on too many tracks or is going conservatively slow and not in a racing situation. If not, you have the Chaparral S15 or Rota RB wheels as well. See if you can find a different set of those. They'll be strong enough for a glass smooth race track, but not strong enough to ride on rough roads everyday. ![]()
